Current Honda Civic Type R was only offered on the European market. After some rumors about new version, Honda has decided to release new 2018 Honda Civic Type R on the U.S. market as well. This is really great news for true Honda car enthusiasts in the States.

So far, we do know that new 2018 Type R will be produced on the same platform as the latest Civic. This means it will be very rigid and much lighter. 2018 Civic Type R spy shots revealed highly aggressive front end borrowed from new Civic.  Actually overall design should be almost identical to the base Civic version, At the back, Type R test mule was equipped with massive wing. It is almost certain that future 2018 Civic Type R will use same 2.0-liter engine. Main difference will be power. Some rumors indicate that improved engine could deliver around 340 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque. Power from the engine will be sent to the front wheels through 6-speed manual gearbox. Type R will also use limited slip differential.

There is still not much to say about 2018 Civic Type R price. Considering that its biggest rivals are Ford RS and Golf R, it is obvious to see very similar price. This is very much needed in order for Honda to stay competitive on the market. This means that price could range from $30,000 up to $40,000. 2018 Honda Civic Type R release date should be set for next year.
