One of the best high-performance luxury sedans in the World is certainly BMW M5. Since it was released, 30 years ago, M5 was famous for great rear wheel drive performance. After discontinuing naturally aspirated V10 engine and introducing new twin-turbo V8, they will now do similarly radical move. New 2018 BMW M5 xDrive will be offered with all-wheel drive system.
We have already seen spy shots of M5 test cars with installed all-wheel drive system. True BMW M5 fans will not be thrilled with this feature. But at the end, future 2018 M5 xDrive might also be offered with rear wheel drive. If it does, that will be really great move by the BMW. Production will be done on BMW CLAR platform. This will enable producing bigger 5 series with no extra weight problem. Other than that, expect very evolutionary design for upcoming BMW M5. Interior design changes are still a mystery, but we should expect some design cues borrowed from BMW 7 Series.
2018 BMW M5 xDrive engine performance
2018 BMW M5 xDrive engine will still be twin-turbocharged V8 unit. Only difference is that it will not use old 4.4-liter engine, but new 4.0-liter powertrain. Maximum power from this engine should be set around 600 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque in the base version. More powerful BMW M5 “Performance Pack” will develop around 650 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. Acceleration time from 0 to 60 mph is set in only 3 seconds, which is crazy fast.
2018 BMW M5 xDrive release date and price
2018 BMW M5 xDrive price is not officially announced, but it will definitely be higher than before. Expect to see increase between $5,000 and $10,000. M5 main rivals on the market will be Audi RS7 and Mercedes-AMG E63 4Matic. 2018 BMW M5 xDrive release date will be sometime during 2017.
